The Consolation Center of Les Cayes, Haiti currently provides housing for 175 students and has over 300 students enrolled in their primary and secondary education centers. By order of the United Nations, orphans of Haiti are required to leave the orphanage at the age of 18. Unfortunately, this time frame leaves many orphanages, including CCH unable to provide students with an education beyond a high school diploma. As a result, the majority of CCH’s students lack the access and opportunity to find employment or affordable vocational training following their time at CCH. A vocational education in Haiti costs approximately $10,000, often leaving this education out of reach for those who seek it. The lack of educational and economic opportunities for Haitian youth remain large contributing factors to systemic poverty present within Haitian communities.
